The C.A.I. Squash Club

The Squash Club is a vibrant and enthusiastically supported extra-curricular activity at C.A.I. The Club offers boys the opportunity to engage in a physically demanding and competitive sport within the context of an arena which requires quick thinking and sharp skillful reactions. It is a satisfying contrast to the intellectual demands of study and classroom based activities.

The C.A.I. Squash Club meets every Monday at The University of Ulster squash courts. It runs from September until the start of the summer term each year. The membership of the club is open to and made up of pupils from Year 8 to Year 14.

Boys who attend benefit not only from a health and fitness point of view but they also develop useful social skills from mixing with their peers in a different context. Members who are chosen to represent the Club at tournaments also benefit from the experience of travel throughout the country. It brings them into contact with peer groups from other towns, cities and traditions.

Members of the Club are Ulster Schools Champions, Ulster Schools Novice Cup Winners and have represented Ulster at the All Ireland Schools Championships in Sligo.

Squash is a dynamic one on one competitive experience which taxes the mind and the body. It provides a player with a more satisfying feeling of competition than is available on computer screens or games consoles. Boys are afforded the opportunity to experience first hand a chance to test their tactical responses as well as the limits of their physical abilities. At the same time sportsmanship is always valued and never “squashed” so that the Club is a place where the efforts of all who attend are encouraged, respected and developed.

You are welcome to come along and see for yourself any Monday during the season and enjoy the experience first hand. Equipment is provided for those who wish to attend.
