Religious Education

Head of Department: Mr Garry Spence

Teachers: Dr Norman Cully, Miss Lynn Montgomery, Miss Sarah Pinkerton

The aims of the RE Department are to help pupils to:

 develop knowledge of religion as an important part of human experience;

 appreciate moral values like honesty, liberty, fairness and concern for others;

 think about the answers that religion offers to questions about the nature and meaning of life like: what is the purpose of life?  how should I behave? what happens to us when we die?

 develop their own beliefs, attitudes, moral values and practices through a process of personal search, discovery and critical evaluation;

 develop respect for the rights of others to their own beliefs, attitudes, moral values and practices.

The content covered in Religious Education includes:

 the pupils’ own experience;

 Christianity, as the main religious tradition in the local and national community

 other ‘world religions’ (when the new core syllabus is introduced)
