Another successful Coleraine Academical Institution Summer Camp! Just as summer holidays began a group of almost one hundred bodies travelled to Castlewellan Castle in the picturesque County Down Park.
The weather was very favourable this year and this allowed the boys to enthusiastically take part in a varied programme of activities.
The main competition of the week involved the boys playing against each other in four different sports; football, volleyball, touch rugby and tadpole. All the Year 8 pupils were divided up into eight groups which were named after American Football Teams.
Each afternoon these teams took on an outward bound activity which usually involved getting wet or messy: Canadian Canoeing on the lake inside the forest grounds, bouldering in the Bloody Bridge River, an Activity Hike and the Castlewellan Triathlon which involved crab football, laser clay pigeon shooting and the slippery slope challenge.
Each evening we had a short SU meeting when Mr Smyth enthralled us with various biblical characters who had to battle to overcome fears and challenges in their lives.
This was made relevant to the boys as they start a new chapter in their lives discussing fears and anxieties and given advice as how to overcome them. The boys really made an effort to join in enthusiastically at singing time and a enjoyable time was had by all!
Great memories were created and many new friends were made as the year 8slooked forward to their new school.
