Junior SU welcomes boys from Years 8 – 10 every Wednesday lunchtime in Room 32. So far this year we have had around 35 -40 boys attending each week, which has been great! It has also been really exciting to see new faces every week, especially those from Year 8.
The format of SU usually runs as follows:
• Well, since it is lunchtime, understandably we have our lunch first
• Usually there will be have a game or ice-breaker to start things off
• Time for looking a theme or character from the Bible with Miss Pinkerton or Mrs McKee (standing in for Miss Stevenson), or even with our trusty senior reps, Craig and Adam from Sixth form.
From September until December last year we concentrated on some difficult questions that the Bible can help us to answer. For example, dealing with disappointment or standing up for what you believe in. After Christmas we concentrated on several different Bible characters: David, Solomon, Elijah and Elisha. The most significant thing that we have discovered about these very Godly men is that although God used them to do great things, they were just ordinary people with the same weaknesses and failings that we have. What’s important is that they trusted God and relied on Him, whether in good times or bad. This year, so far, we have been concentrating on the different aspects of Jesus’ character.
SU works on the basis that the boys who attend may have a well developed grasp of Biblical truths, or a more basic and less defined one. All boys are welcome if they want to learn something about God and it is very encouraging to see so many willing to give up their lunchtime in order to do so.
If you’re unsure about SU why not just call in on Wednesdays at 1 o’clock to Room 32 and see what you think for yourself?
