Journalism

This is a new and exciting course being offered at GCSE! This subject provides opportunities for the application of knowledge, understanding and skills. Pupils will study a wide variety of topics such as media law, the use of sources and analyse different formats of media (such as print, audio and moving image).

However, the emphasis on the practical will enable the pupil to have a motivating and enjoyable experience. Pupils will have the opportunity to carry out interviews, research and write stories and use ICT to produce articles. The content of the course aims to make the students’ experiences as realistic and authentic as possible.

Pupils will have direct contact and experience of the world-of-work. There will be the opportunity to participate in out-of-school activities such as Cinemagic’s News Journalism Workshop at Queen’s QFT and visiting local and regional newspaper offices. Even though pupils may not automatically choose to follow this occupation as a career, study of this course will help develop transferable skills important in further education, training and/or employment.
