ICT Year 9

In Year 9 students study a broad range of subjects including:

Term 1

Basic HTML Programming - Pupils get the opportunity to develop basic programming skills in HTML.

Web Design – Pupils learn to use FrontPage in order to develop a three page website on a topic of their chose. They learn to add navigation bars and hyperlinks. They also learn how to incorporate web components such as scrolling marquees and hit counters. As well as this they are taught about the structure of web sites and how to layout a website effectively.

Internet Searching – in this topic pupils look at features of information, including what makes information ‘good’, how we know information is from a reliable source and where we can get reliable information from. The pupils then move on to use advanced search techniques and Boolean searches in order to search more effectively for information using the Internet and common search engines.

Term 2

Spreadsheets - We use Microsoft Excel as our spreadsheet application – pupils develop their skills as far as applying formula in a spreadsheet and production of graphs – they must sit an assessed excel examination and complete KS3 ICT Information Handling at Level 5

Desktop Publishing – pupils use Publisher to produce a tri-fold leaflet for a Theme Park. They must design a map layout for the theme park including all the required amenities and also the rides. They also produce the front cover of the leaflet. The final leaflet produced is then assessed.

Term 3

Databases - Pupils develop skill and knowledge of designing a database for the Theme Park and then proceed to interrogate data. They validate data within a certain range, run queries, set up reports, forms and charts.
