ICT Year 10
In Year 10 pupils follow the CCEA Key Stage 3 accreditation programme in ICT. Pupils complete work which is assessed against four strands. These are:
- Communication
- Information Handling
- Modelling
- Measurement & Control
Term 1
As part of this accreditation program the pupils currently complete the ‘Maxi – Box’ task for the modelling task. This is a CCEA produced task that is completed using the Excel spreadsheet program. It requires the pupils to use the spreadsheet skills they have developed in both Year 8 and Year 9 in order to complete the task.
Term 2
The pupils also currently use a combination of PowerPoint, Publisher and Word in order to complete the work required for the ‘Percussion around the World’ task. This enables the student to complete work which can be assessed against the communication and information handling strands of the accreditation scheme.
Term 3
The final task the students undertake is for the measurement and control strand. This is a school generated task which was developed between the ICT and Technology departments within the school. It requires the students to develop a system using Pic-logicator software to develop a more automated system for the railways. In this task students must consider macros, sensors, sequences and loops. The systems developed are then tested using a model train system which operates alongside the software.
