At CAI students in Years 8 – 10 have one 55 minute periods of discrete ICT per week. GCSE students studying CCEA full course ICT get three 55 minute periods per week. Post 16 pupils may select ICT at AS and A2 level and also complete the ECDL as part of their general studies program.
In Year 8 students study a broad range of topics including:
File Management - Pupils develop skills of basic housekeeping procedures and File/Folder Management in windows XP.
PowerPoint Presentation - Pupils develop a range of presentation skills using Microsoft PowerPoint and they will produce a PowerPoint about themselves. We encourage pupils to advance their presentations as much as possible including animations.
Desk top Publishing - Pupils design a newspaper in Microsoft Publisher – this is an assessed component.
Spreadsheets - We use Microsoft Excel as our spreadsheet application – pupils develop their skills as far as applying formula in a spreadsheet and production of graphs. Pupils work through the Harry Plotter Scheme of work to complete.
Use of the Internet - Pupils develop the skill and knowledge of browsing the internet including advanced internet interrogation through multiple-search criteria used in Search Engines – they must produce evidence which shows refinements in their searches.
Control & Modelling - Pupils will develop the skills and knowledge of using control technology. They will examine switches and sensors and the use of control technology in their everyday lives. They will use Logo in order to write instructions and procedures to control the turtle and will Flowol to produce flowcharts to control traffic lights and zebra crossings.
