The formal programme of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance includes:
Year 10
- 7 week introductory careers module through Modern Language classes
- Guided pupil career research using Odyssey Plus computer programme
- Pupil handbook of Key Stage 4 courses
- Pupil copy of ‘Which way now?’
- Year 10 parent’s night / subject consultations
- Parents copy of ‘Which way now?’
- Individual pupil interviews with careers staff
- Completion of initial Personal Career Plan
Year 12
- 6 week careers module delivered through English classes
- Individual interviews with DEL Careers Advisers
- Guided pupil research using Pathfinder computer programme
- Series of talk about individual careers
- Visit to Coleraine area careers convention
- Parents’ night / subject consultations
- Pupil handbook of 6th From courses
- Access to information on Further Education courses
Year 13 & 14 (Sixth Form)
- Tutorial programme emphasising many aspects of post-18 choices
- Work experience
- Individual research project in Year 13
- Guidance through UCAS Apply procedure
- Careers talks continue
- Visits to university open days
- Talks by representatives of a range of universities
- Individual advice available at all times
The above is in addition to the work carried out during Years 8 - 12 during Learning for Life and Work classes which includes activities focusing on the area of Employability.
