On Sat 29th April we had our first athletics meet of the season against B.R.A. and Ballyclare High School. There were some fine individual performances as well as a great team effort which saw victory in the Minor, Junior and Senior events as well as overall victory.
In the minor event Ross McLaughlin won the 100m, 200m, High Jump, Long jump and was second in the Shot making him the schools top points scorer of the day. Others in Year 8 who put in excellent performances were S Carrigan, M Poskitt, S Fulton, P Liken, L Bradley, C Scott, B Irons and J Ferguson.
In the Junior event winners included S McIntosh in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump, John Bennet in the 800m and Phillip Gilliland in the 1500m. There were also some fine performances from D Rankin, J McCabe, S McCaffery, J McDowell , S Best and S Lowe and P Farrell.
The Inter event saw Jason Bloomfield play a staring role with wins in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump, and second place in the 400m, and Javelin. Daniel Livingstone won the 400m and was second in the 800m with Alan Gourley winning the High Jump and coming second in the Long Jump. Other competitors who chipped in with points were C Gaston, P O’Hara, D Dorsett, J Christie, T Kerr, W Murdock and A Evangelista.
In the senior event Matthew Livingstone won the 400m, 800m, 1500m and Long Jump with some fine displays. Adam Teacy won the Hammer and Shot, Stefan Downey won the Discus, Aaron Maguire won the Javelin and Chris Cochrane won the 100m.
C.A.I. Excel in The District Athletics Championships
Coleraine Academical Institution had a very successful day out at the District Athletics Championships held at the Antrim Forum. There were some fine individual and team performances which resulted in 23 boys qualifying for the Ulster Championships to be held in 2 weeks time.
Winners on the day included S Mcintosh in the Junior boys 100m and Long Jump, D Dorsett in th Inter Boys Hammer, J Bloomfield in the Inter boys 400m, S Downey in the Senior Boys Discus, A Maguire in the Senior Boys Javelin, M Livingstone in the 2000m Steeplechase and the Inter and Junior boys Relay teams.
