The Charity Committee

The school Charity Committee is made up of eight very enthusiastic Year 13 students. These thoughtful boys give up their time in order to improve the lives of others less fortunate than themselves.  The whole school is involved in supporting the work of the Committee through donations, being volunteers, or simply coming up with new and innovative ideas of raising money.

The year began with the arrival of the Mwamba Children’s Choir from Uganda, supported by Rock Ministries NI. The choir entertained us with wonderful music and dance, to the delight of the many boys and teachers who were there. We were all touched by the huge smiles on the young children’s faces and smitten by their enthusiasm. Jonathan Mitchell then presented a cheque to Rock Ministries to help them continue their wonderful work in Uganda.

Our weekly charity collections have resumed, and the boys have already proven themselves to be extremely generous and caring. The charity for the month is Cancer Research NI, a very worthwhile cause, close to the hearts of many here in the school.

Operation Christmas Child is also underway in the school, with many boys ready and willing to fill their shoe boxes to help underprivileged children in war and poverty-stricken countries.

With Children in Need day approaching fast, various activities are being planned, including a non-uniform day and break-time bun sale, which I am sure will be very well supported.

A big thank-you to everyone who supports our various charities in any way they can.  You really are making a huge difference to those in need.
